How to Recycle Your Candle Vessels (and Why It Matters to Us)

At Giaroma Candle Company, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword—it’s at the heart of everything we do. From using 100% soy wax and clean fragrances to sourcing all of our materials domestically, we are committed to reducing our environmental footprint. Even our packaging is thoughtfully designed to minimize waste, using recycled and recyclable materials wherever possible.

But what about once your candle has burned down? That beautiful vessel doesn’t have to go to waste. Here’s how you can give it a second life—and help us keep sustainability burning bright.

Step 1: Freeze and Pop

Once your candle has about ½ inch of wax left, place the vessel in the freezer for a few hours. The wax will shrink and harden, making it easy to pop out with a spoon or butter knife. (Bonus: You can save the leftover wax for a wax warmer if you'd like!)

Step 2: Clean with Care

Remove the wick tab and any leftover glue. Then wash the vessel with warm, soapy water. Avoid boiling water, as it can crack certain glass or ceramic containers. A little baking soda and vinegar can help remove any lingering scent or wax residue.

Step 3: Reuse or Recycle

Now comes the fun part:

Ways to Reuse Your Candle Vessel:

  • Mini planter for succulents or herbs

  • Makeup brush or pen holder

  • Small storage for jewelry, paperclips, cotton rounds

  • DIY candle refill (yes, you can make your own!)

If reusing isn’t your thing, check the bottom of the vessel. If it’s glass, tin, or ceramic, it can typically be recycled with your curbside program—just make sure it’s clean and wax-free.

Why It Matters

When you recycle or repurpose your candle jars, you're helping reduce landfill waste and conserve natural resources. It’s a small step that adds up—especially when it becomes a habit. We’re proud to stand behind products that are not only beautiful and safe for your home, but kind to the planet, too.
